Better late than never to share pictures and our adventures of our recent bus trip on September 7-9 to Niagara Falls and area!
Our first day included dining in the restaurant of the Niagara-on-the-Lake Golf Club. The views from the beautiful shoreline of Lake Ontario were spectacular and noting this golf club is the oldest golf course in North America, dating all the way back to 1875. Actually, 121 years ago September 5- 7, 1895 the first ever international tournament was held on this very course. After supper we headed to Shaw Festival for their adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s tale of Alice in Wonderland. The visual effects, costumes and our imagination followed Alice in her adventure down the rabbit hole.
The next day we boarded Niagara Cruises to get up and personal with the falls. Refreshing to say the least on a humid day. For lunch we went to Rockway Vineyards, nestled on The Twenty-Mile Bench of the Niagara Escarpment, one of the great premium grape growing regions of the world. Prior to enjoying a delicious lunch, we had the opportunity to taste 3 different types of wine – white, red and late harvest ice wine. For a comparison we headed to Hernder Estates, a perfectly restored 1867 Victorian Barn, where we toured their facility and operations. For this tasting as an added bonus was their rhubarb wine. After brief rest at the hotel, we headed to the Oh Canada EH! Theatre, for a musical evening featuring all-Canadian music – eh? and supper. The menu from across Canada; French Canadian Pea Soup, Garden Salad, Fresh Bread, Alberta Grade Eh? Roast Beef, Lightly Battered and Fried Atlantic Haddock, Manitoba Roast Chicken, New Brunswick Vegetable Medley, PEI Potatoes and Maple Chocolate Cake for dessert, all served by the performers. A shout out was made welcoming the bus group from Senior Drop-In Centre in Pembroke and their bus driver Jacques and escort – Ailéne –(I changed my name for the evening!) The evening was a high-energy, full of laughs celebrating over 65 songs from all-Canadian artists from maritime folk songs to modern pop.
The next day we packed our bags to say good-bye to Niagara Falls. An adventure for sure! I wish to thank everyone for their companionship and willingness to go on a “venture with the Centre”! Until next time…..Arlene
